Dream Room was a dance in the 2018 Dance up Close showcase in the University's small Masquer Theatre, choreographed by Olivia Pillidge. Her concept was a dreamlike solo piece that she would explore, and wanted the atmosphere to be otherworldly, dreamy, and ambiguous.

As Olivia danced onstage, she wanted a harpist to play upstage for her, setting the pace and the tone. After talking about her process and watching some rehearsals, I discussed what I wanted to do with the lighting and we moved forward from there.

Drafting

Drafting

Not only did I design a few dances for this show, I was also the "Lighting Coordinator," which just means that I designed the overall plot and functioned as the Master Electrician as well. I adapted a stock plot that the University has used for this showcase in the past years, but changed the circuitry to make it more efficient, changed colors to better serve the other designers, and plotted out cable runs.

Above you can see the final light plot, a focus cheat sheet that I used to help speed along focus, and two pages of magic sheets. I was also in charge of making all of the paperwork streamlined and easy to read, so the board operator sheet, cue lists (for the stage manager), and magic sheet are all easy to navigate.

As the lighting coordinator I also managed the cue lists for the other designers and linked them together as well as smoothing out transitions between dances.
